We live in a world that constantly measures things—how much money we make, how many hours we work, how much we give to others. But what if the true measure of our contribution isn't found in quantity at all? What if a single moment of genuine presence is worth more than years of distracted interaction? What if giving everything from almost nothing is more valuable than giving a little from abundance? Today's inspiration invites us to reconsider what it really means to give.
The focus for today is:
It is not so important how much we give; it is how we give that counts. If you have a lot, but offer a little, you have given little. If you have a little, but give it all, you have given much.

Alan Cohen shares the story of a spiritual teacher choosing between two students for one remaining seminar spot. The wealthy student tried to bargain for half-price at $500, while the other student had only $20. The teacher chose the student with $20 "because she offered everything." As Kahlil Gibran wrote, "Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed; For love is sufficient unto love." Our actions are real not for their outer form, but for the energy and intentions behind them.
