Real spiritual experiences don't divide us into believers and non-believers, righteous and sinful, saved and damned. They expand us. They connect us. They increase our joy. If your spiritual path makes you feel separate, superior, or afraid — if it demands you see others as enemies or outsiders — it's not spirit talking. It's ego wearing a religious costume. True spirituality always moves toward inclusion, never exclusion.
The focus for today is:
Real spiritual experiences always increase our joy. This is partly because true spiritual experiences always involve an element of greater inclusion, expansion, and connectedness.
Today's message is inspired by David Ian Cowan, author of the book: Seeing Beyond Illusions: Freeing Ourselves from Ego, Guilt, and the Belief in Separation
David challenges us to look beyond religious dogma and recognize the illusion of separation at the heart of so much human suffering. He writes: "The only way this could make any sense is if somehow this dualistic 'god' of religion was not the true God of Unconditional love, but instead the projection of collective ego tortured by its own inner divisions." The path forward isn't fixing the world — it's recognizing that separation itself is the illusion. Today's invitation is to question one assumption you've held about spirituality, religion, or what is "real." What opens when you allow the possibility that everything dividing us is just smoke and mirrors?
