The Greek concept of sin as "missing the mark" offers a radical reframe: what if your mistakes were simply moments when you lost your way, not proof that you are fundamentally bad? D. Patrick Miller draws from A Course in Miracles to show how the ego keeps us trapped in cycles of shame by treating errors as sins—crimes unworthy of correction. Yet the moment you change that status from sin to mistake, something shifts. You stop repeating it endlessly and simply let it go. This is the power of forgiveness: not excusing harm, but recognizing that punishment preserves sin while acceptance releases it. When you extend this forgiveness to yourself and others, you begin to remember that love, not judgment, is your natural inheritance.
